
[ Asia Economy ] The youth romance film ‘Hear Me,’ adapted from a popular Taiwanese movie, topped the box office on its opening weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for movie tickets on the 11th, ‘Hear Me’ (directed by Cho Sun-ho) attracted 168,549 viewers over three days last weekend (8th-10th), claiming the number one spot at the box office. The market share is 26.9%. The film tells the story of a twentysomething, Yong-jun (played by Hong Kyung), who falls in love at first sight with Summer (played by New Woo-seo) at a swimming pool and goes straight for love. It was released on the 6th and amassed a cumulative audience of 239,547.
The blockbuster film ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ (directed by Kelly Marcel) gathered a similar 167,788 viewers to take second place. Its cumulative audience is 1,580,492.
The comedy ‘Amazon Vital’ starring actor Ryu Seung-ryong (directed by Kim Chang-ju) attracted 79,120 viewers, taking third place. In fourth place was the American film ‘Red One’ (30,210 viewers), followed by ‘An Ordinary Family’ (17,138 viewers) in fifth. The total number of theatergoers over the weekend was counted at 626,602.
The box office rankings next weekend are expected to change. As of 9:30 AM on this day, the real-time reservation rate shows Ridley Scott’s new movie ‘Gladiator 2,’ a sequel to ‘Gladiator’ (2000), leading with a reservation rate of 28.4% (62,813 people). The musical film ‘Wicked’ follows in second place (15.6%), with the occult film ‘Three Days’ starring Park Shin-yang in third (10.9%).
