[Seoul=RNX News] Reporter Kim Yae-eun = The first domestic childbirth broadcast variety show, TV CHOSUN ‘Our Baby is Born Again’ features ‘childbirth correspondents’ Park Soo-hong and Kim Chan-woo joining the delivery scene of a mother with ‘thrombocytopenia,’ battling bleeding.
In today’s (30th) episode airing at 10 PM on TV CHOSUN ‘Our Baby is Born Again (Directed by Lee Seung-hoon, Kim Jun/Written by Jang Joo-yeon), Kim Chan-woo from the sitcom ‘Soonpoong Clinic’ accompanies the delivery scene of a high-risk mother who has struggled to carry a baby.
Now in his third year of marriage and dreaming of becoming a ‘father-to-be,’ Kim Chan-woo said, “I hope to receive good energy and that the mother receives my energy for a ‘smooth delivery,’” setting aside even his wedding anniversary to visit the mother.
The high-risk mother had a condition called ‘thrombocytopenia,’ which made it difficult for her to stop bleeding. On the day of delivery, her platelet count barely reached the normal range, so a ‘C-section’ was scheduled.
However, Professor Bae Jin-gon from the high-risk maternal and neonatal center who was in charge of the surgery said, “It’s strange that the platelet count improved, so it wouldn’t be unusual if it suddenly worsens. Just as there was no reason for improvement, there’s no reason to be surprised if it worsens. Therefore, the surgery should aim to minimize bleeding,” forecasting a ‘battle with bleeding.’
The mother then entered the operating room, and as the C-section approached, her whole body began to tremble.
The medical staff held the mother’s hand and helped her calm down by taking deep breaths together. Observing this, Professor Bae Jin-gon humorously said, “The mom isn’t the one having the surgery, so why tremble? We are the ones doing the surgery…” easing the high-risk mother’s tension.
However, as the surgery started, Professor Bae Jin-gon diagnosed ‘postpartum hemorrhage’ and struggled to stop the uninterrupted bleeding.
Obstetrician and gynecologist consultant Kim Ji-yeon explained the serious situation, stating, “20% of maternal deaths are due to postpartum hemorrhage. The most devastating postpartum hemorrhage occurs when bleeding arises sporadically, and in such cases, the uterus might need to be removed.”
As bleeding was controlled in one area, it arose in another, leaving the ‘thrombocytopenia’ mother in a crisis. Whether she will safely complete childbirth will be revealed in today’s (30th) 10 PM broadcast of the first domestic childbirth broadcast variety show, TV CHOSUN ‘Our Baby is Born Again’.
