‘Squid Game’ season 2 has revved up anticipation by hosting various events worldwide. Set to release on the 26th, ‘Squid Game’ season 2 tells the story of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) who returns for revenge and participates in the game again, facing off against Frontman (Lee Byung-hun), as well as the resumption of the true game.
Starting with Italy last October, large-scale fan events have been held in a total of 11 countries across Asia, Europe, Americas, and South America, garnering global attention.
At these on-site events, activities such as races, maze games, and DJ performances took place, and Korean food and culture were showcased, offering global fans a new joy of experiencing not only Korean content but also overall culture.
These events ahead of season 2’s release recorded over 2.15 billion exposures on Netflix’s global social channels, reaffirming the world’s intense interest in Korean content. Promotional activities began in earnest at the ‘Lucca Comics & Games Festival’, Europe’s largest comic con, held in Italy on October 30.
An ‘Squid Game’ themed pavilion and special installation store opened outside the Anfiteatro square, allowing more than 20,000 players attending the event to immerse themselves in the work. On the 31st, director Hwang Dong-hyuk, and actors Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-joon held a special event to meet fans directly, adding a highlight to the event.
Iconic game experiences from ‘Squid Game’ such as ‘Red Light, Green Light’ or tug-of-war were also held.
On the 1st of last month, among more than 50,000 applicants, 909 participants aged 18 and over participated in the ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France. The event drew 20,000 fans on-site and attracted 4.2 million viewers on YouTube live and replays, capturing immense interest.
Following the maze experience event in the Netherlands, a specially organized 4.56K race was held in Los Angeles, USA on the 12th ahead of the US premiere.
This race, planned based on the symbolic number 456 from ‘Squid Game’, attracted 1,700 fans in green tracksuits, furthering the buzz.
