The film ‘Opposition’, which intriguingly unfolds the current state of drug investigation in South Korea, also ensures realism. On the 8th, distributor Plus M Entertainment released a commentary video featuring advisors who helped make ‘Opposition’ more realistic.
The film is a crime action movie where a broker called ‘Opposition’, who designs the drug trade in South Korea, a prosecutor aiming higher, and a detective dedicated to eradicating drug crimes, are intertwined with different objectives. In the released advisor commentary video, lawyer Hana and former drug investigation team chief Kim Hyung-seop from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency delve deeply into the reality of drug investigations in South Korea and the real ‘Opposition’, stirring up interest among potential viewers.
Firstly, lawyer Hana revealed the meaning of ‘Opposition’, which is used as slang in the drug world for a person who acts as an informant providing information to investigative agencies.
In the film, Kang Ha-neul is set to enhance the immersion by playing the role of nationwide ‘Opposition’, Lee Kang-soo.
Chief Kim Hyung-seop explained the survival strategy of ‘Opposition’, where they exploit the legal provision of receiving a 1/2 sentence reduction by submitting a cooperation certificate to the prosecution or court.
He continued, revealing that there are about four drug offenders nationwide who can claim to be ‘Opposition’, addressing the biggest curiosity of the potential audience regarding the actual existence of ‘Opposition’.
Lawyer Hana also mentioned having met a real ‘Opposition’ and talked about their activities in reality.
The two advisors noted that utilizing the ‘Opposition’, who holds insider information on the drug syndicate, is an inevitable reality to dismantle the organized drug structure, but also added that it could lead to issues such as the wastage of investigative manpower or interference due to misleading information.
Finally, Chief Kim Hyung-seop stated, “South Korea is not a drug-free country.
Drugs induce symptoms like auditory, visual hallucinations, and illusions,” raising awareness about drugs.
Lawyer Hana mentioned, “The director made significant efforts to realistically portray the practical aspects of drug crime investigations from a legal standpoint,” enhancing expectations for the more realistic and detailed film ‘Opposition’ based on the two experts’ advice. Not only delivering genre-specific fun but also raising drug awareness in line with current circumstances, ‘Opposition’ is set to release on the 16th. Reporter Lee Joo-in juin27@edaily.co.kr
