[Seoul=RNX News] Reporter Kim Ye-eun = TV CHOSUN’s highly realistic documentary entertainment ‘Chosun’s Lovebirds’ introduces a new couple, announcer Kwak Min-seon and soccer player Song Min-gyu, a ‘7-year age-gap couple’, who joined as new lovebirds, evoking excitement with their youthful newlywed scenes.
Also, Kim Tae-won, whose trip to America was thwarted, met his daughter Seohyun and the ‘New York son-in-law’ Devin for the first time in three years. The nationwide viewership rating for this broadcast was 2.8%, with peak viewership hitting 3.3% per minute (Nielsen Korea, based in the metropolitan area), ranking first among broadcasts at the same time.
On the broadcast on the 29th, Song Min-gyu, a star forward of the K-League and a key player of the Hangzhou Asian Games gold medal, joined with ‘soccer goddess’ Kwak Min-seon, who is a ‘7-year older’ sports announcer, as new lovebirds.
As footage from their fresh dating days was revealed, Hwang Bo-ra expressed envy saying, “I should have become a sports announcer…”. They first met through a broadcast interview five years ago, and it was the fresh 21-year-old Song Min-gyu who reached out first, leading them to develop into a couple.
Kwak Min-seon shared about the moments of their secret relationship saying, “When this relationship was exposed, I tried to hide it worrying Min-gyu might have concerns.” Kim Ji-min sympathized, saying, “There are many soccer fans… If the performance was slightly down, it might have been blamed on dating.”
Later, a video was revealed showing Song Min-gyu proposing to Kwak Min-seon through a goal celebration in front of tens of thousands of fans at a soccer match. Kwak Min-seon, who wasn’t present due to another event, recalled, “I had no idea.
While with fans after the event, fans asked, ‘Are you getting married, sister?’ Many calls came from the company and friends,” reflecting on that day. It was also revealed that Song Min-gyu made an official marriage proposal to Kwak Min-seon the day after the proposal ceremony.
Meanwhile, Kwak Min-seon is preparing a pre-marital home in Jeonju for Song Min-gyu, who belongs to the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC, and is actively going back and forth to Seoul. In the VCR, the couple welcoming the crew in pajamas revealed their affectionate space of the MZ generation newlywed couple.
Hwang Bo-ra amusingly commented, “After only seeing older people(?) for a while… It’s different to see young people getting married,” which brought laughter.
Meanwhile, Song Min-gyu’s teammates from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC, Jeon Jin-woo, Lee Seung-woo, and Song Beom-keun, came for a housewarming. Kwak Min-seon personally prepared stamina-boosting food like abalone for the soccer players.
The first-timers to the newlywed housewarming awkwardly gobbled up the food in a somewhat tense atmosphere. When the conversation began, the incidents during their dating period, where Song Min-gyu would approach from behind Kwak Min-seon while broadcasting to shield her from the sun with an umbrella, or embrace Kwak Min-seon who attempted an interview on the same day, became the focus.
Lee Seung-woo humorously asserted, “If I were marrying that person, I would have had deeper physical contact,” which brought laughter. For the lonely players, Song Min-gyu promised to introduce acquaintances for ‘naturally occurring blind dates’ under the guise of sharing wedding invitations.
Meanwhile, Kooh Taewon’s emotional disclosures about dealing with the second visa rejection to visit his daughter settled in New York were revealed.
Kooh Taewon said, “My daughter wonders ‘Why can’t a fairly famous dad in Korea come to America?’, assuming I’m only known in Korea… questioning if I’ve inflated expectations about the wedding abruptly,” expressing regret while also looking forward to meaningful times while his daughter is in Korea.
Finally, Kooh Taewon’s entire family, including his wife and son, gathered to greet daughter Kim Seo-hyun and ‘New York son-in-law’ Devin at the airport. As they awaited the couple, Kooh Taewon showed both the excitement of seeing his daughter for the first time in three years and the guilt of not being able to visit her sooner due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Kooh Taewon described Devin saying, “(He looked) very cool, standing over 190cm tall, and seemed to fit with Seohyun like a set.”
However, unlike his wife and son who were fluent in English thanks to their time spent in the Philippines, ‘English illiterate’ Kooh Taewon felt isolated as soon as the family gathered.
During a meal where he was left alone with Devin, despite the rapid speech of the English-native speaker, Kooh Taewon tactfully communicated using music as a topic to build rapport. As his daughter Seohyun returned after a brief absence, Kooh Taewon asked everything he was curious about regarding Devin.
Visiting the in-laws the next day, Kooh Taewon showed Devin photo albums portraying moments like her time sticking like glue to her dad while fishing and her childhood spent as an amusement park enthusiast, establishing a connection.
Seohyun and Devin surprised Kooh Taewon with a thoughtful gift of a luxurious brush made from wild boar hair and various health supplements for his well-being, warming hearts.
