
Recently deceased former soccer player Kang Ji-yong has been laid to rest after a funeral procedure.
The funeral for the late Kang Ji-yong was solemnly held at 6:30 AM on the 25th at Soonchunhyang University, Cheonan Funeral Home.
The chief mourners were his wife, Lee Da-eun, and daughter.
The deceased’s burial place is Cheonan Memorial Park.
The deceased appeared on JTBC’s ‘Divorce Deliberation Camp’ with his wife on February 27th, revealing family conflicts.
At the time, the deceased revealed that despite receiving a high salary during his 11-year career as a soccer player, he had no money left and expressed financial hardship.
He confessed that he had given about 500 million won he earned as a professional soccer player to his parents due to family matters and did not receive it back, and became heavily in debt after standing surety for his brother, leading to family discord. His revelation led to public support. During the broadcast, he revealed, “My wish is to die while sleeping,” reflecting on the heavy burden of life.
Shortly before two months had passed since then, the tragic news was delivered, causing great sorrow.
After his passing, the ‘Divorce Deliberation Camp’ converted the couple’s appearance videos to private and deleted the replay.
Lee Ho-sun, a professor at Soongsil Cyber University, who was in charge of his psychological counseling on the program, mourned, saying, “We remember someone who lived passionately and fiercely, and passed away sadly while living kindly.
We pray for the family left behind.
We pray for hope at the end of tears.”
The late Kang Ji-yong debuted in the professional field in 2009 when he joined Pohang Steelers.
He went through Bucheon FC 1995, Gangwon FC, and Incheon United FC before retiring in 2022.
It was also known that he was the cousin of Kwon Eun-bi, a singer from IZ*ONE.
