[Seoul=RNX News] Reporter Han Kyung-hee = A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change the life of students and families worried about their grades, the youngest challenger in “Teachers” appeared on Channel A’s ‘Please Assist My Grades: Teachers 2’. “Tivengers” Jung Seung-je, Cho Jung-sik, and MimiMimu suggested elementary study methods for the first time.
On the 6th broadcast of ‘Teachers 2’, the first elementary student challenger visited ‘Teachers’. The challenger, now in the third grade, was a language prodigy who read HanGul at age 4 and mastered fluent English and HanJa.
Moreover, he was a ‘Little Lee Sedol’ who swept the Go tournament at age 8 and ranked 5th in the World Children’s Go Championship with a 3rd level certification.
The challenger expressed immense intellectual curiosity by saying, “I love studying the most and have a lot of questions. I can’t communicate well with my mom and dad, so there are many things I want to ask the teachers,” and visited the ‘Tivengers.’
The challenger, who woke up at 6 AM, started the morning with HanJa study at the desk by himself. During breakfast, he memorized Pi up to the 50th decimal place like a game. Also, he borrowed a book on the way to school and returned it during lunchtime while borrowing another book.
And after school, he returned it again and borrowed a book, reading several books a day. Watching the challenger, who read HanGul at age 4 and was reading extensively at age 10, Han Hye-jin said, “My daughter read HanGul at age 7…” expressing envy.
Jang Young-ran also said, “Let’s not compare. I’m also holding back a lot,” feeling a sense of crisis with the dimensionally different challenger.
Regarding reading books instead of playing games, the challenger’s mother revealed, “He’s the type who digs deep once he’s interested in studying or reading, so I’m restraining him from starting games,” forming habits according to his tendency.
He also showed a different path in mathematics. The challenger, feeling the need for math academies at age 6, received a math textbook from his parents and taught himself basic calculations within a week.
As a result, he was already doing advanced courses for middle school and pre-learning subjects. Moreover, he solved problems with mental calculation, saying, “There’s no reason for mistakes,” persisting in mental calculation.
‘Math No.1’ Jung Seung-je conducted a mathematical logical thinking test. The challenger solved even the ‘college entrance exam high-difficulty problems’ that high school seniors struggle with, showing outstanding understanding and logical thinking.
Also, the challenger had an IQ of 143, with spatial perception skills unmeasurable at more than the top 0.1%. However, being so exceptional, parents found it hard to guide education, and there were difficulties in relationships with friends.
Cho Jung-sik warned, “Relationship and emotion are important for gifted children. Without them, their giftedness might disappear.” Fortunately, the challenger was building relationship emotions with similar friends attending a gifted academy.
‘Tivengers’ unanimously recommended going to a gifted high school considering peer relationships. The challenger’s mother had already explored the advance world with an elementary consulting road map, including elementary medical school class and M.M.I medical interview preparation class.
However, Cho Jung-sik commented, “An entrance examination road map at the elementary level is nonsense. Finding talent early, like the challenger, is a rare case.
Also, although he might be underrated by education district standards, his logical thinking would be above the education district kids.” He pointed out that following a blanket exam road map might hinder innate talent, advising setting a road map suitable to temperament.
Meanwhile, a wrong point in the challenger’s study method was detected. He studied English by memorizing vocabulary, example sentences, and translations but often just read with his eyes without writing it down.
Cho Jung-sik, who conducted an English logical thinking test, confirmed the challenger’s outstanding language sense and diagnosed, “If he were my son, I wouldn’t make him memorize vocabulary. Mere extensive reading can be word study, and he can perceive English not by memorization but as the language itself.”
Math also had problems due to the mental calculation habit in setting up equations. Jung Seung-je said, “The core of elementary math is step-by-step logical training. It should be so that it helps in middle and high school math too. It’s not just about pre-learning but reinforcing basics by going through processes correctly as taught in textbooks,” pinpointing the necessity of solutions for the third-grade challenger at the timing of setting the educational direction.
First, Jung Seung-je began practicing ‘setting up equations’ with the challenger. Experiencing difficulty from the start due to lack of experience, he promised, “Even if I get the problem wrong, I will set up equations,” following the solution. For the challenger with profound intellectual curiosity, Jung Seung-je held a special lecture on ‘Middle and High School Math Preview’.
With math stories, Jung Seung-je and the challenger spent time filled with laughter. However, Jung Seung-je emphasized, “It’ll be much better by understanding deeply up to the second-year middle school course, third-year middle school course, and first-year high school course rather than merely pre-learning,” stressing the importance of step-by-step learning.
Cho Jung-sik brought original texts of the challenger’s favorite subject, advised reading interesting books, and creating daily questions in English. He also proposed a solution to ask those questions to AI to solve curiosities.
The challenger absorbed ‘English Presentation’, compiling previous questions perfectly while adding fun beyond memorization-focused English. For the gifted challenger, who parents could hardly manage, ‘Tivengers’ advised growing gradually with the focus on direction rather than speed, concluding the elementary study solution.
