World-renowned pop star Taylor Swift (35) got engaged to American NFL player Travis Kelce (35).
On the 26th (local time), Swift posted a picture of the engagement on her Instagram, saying, “Your English teacher and PE teacher are getting married.”
The English teacher refers to herself writing the lyrics of the songs, and the PE teacher refers to Kelce, the NFL player.
The released photo shows the two smiling, facing each other, or hugging. It also captures them holding hands with an engagement ring on the left ring finger.
Swift’s engagement news became a global sensation. The Instagram post announcing the engagement received over 10 million ‘likes’ in just over an hour, and major U.S. media quickly reported it as well.
Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce’s team, congratulated, saying, “Today is a fairytale day. We are thrilled for Taylor Swift to become a part of our family.”
Donut brand Krispy Kreme held a ‘Proposal Ring Celebration Event’ offering free original glazed donuts from 5 PM to 7 PM on the 26th (local time).
Having shown their fandom for Swift before, Krispy Kreme congratulated her engagement with the phrase, “If it’s a donut ring, anytime can be wedding time.”
Donald Trump, the U.S. President, who had openly criticized Democrat supporter Swift, also congratulated Swift and Kelce on their engagement.
He learned about the engagement news during a cabinet meeting, and said to reporters, “I think Kelce is a great player and person, and Swift is a wonderful person too. I wish them lots of luck.”
Swift and Kelce began publicly dating when Swift was caught by broadcast cameras watching a football game with Kelce’s family in 2023.
During the two years of public dating, they drew attention wherever they went. When Kansas City, Kelce’s team, won the NFL finals, the Super Bowl, in February last year, the two shared a kiss in front of the cameras.
Swift became a hot topic by flying from Tokyo, Japan to Las Vegas, USA on a private jet immediately after finishing a concert to watch the game.
