Group Koyote’s Shinji directly addressed the controversy surrounding her fiancé Munwon.
Shinji appeared on the YouTube channel ‘Grade A Jang Young Ran’ on the 24th and mentioned the controversial family meeting video.
Previously, Shinji announced through her agency in June that she was preparing for marriage with Munwon, and released a so-called ‘family meeting’ video on her YouTube channel with Munwon meeting Koyote members Kim Jong-min and Baek Ga.
In the video, Munwon openly revealed that he is a ‘divorced man’ and also has a daughter, which led Baek Ga to leave for a moment, causing a stir. Munwon also commented, “I didn’t know Shinji was such a famous person,” which sparked controversy among fans. As negative opinions spread at the time, various suspicions about Munwon’s private life were also raised.
Shinji stated that this family meeting video reached 6 million views and said, “People who read fortunes in our country started posting about our compatibility as a couple.”
Shinji said, “Almost every comment was ‘Physiognomy is science’, ‘It’s chilling’, ‘You reap what you sow’, ‘He approached her for her money’, and ‘That friend actually lives well’,” defending him.
Shinji expressed, “I was upset because what was untrue was made out to be true,” but admitted, “It is true that he misspoke at that moment. He should have expressed it better, like saying ‘I didn’t know the impact would be this strong’ instead of ‘I didn’t know Shinji was this famous’. He’s not very good with words.”
She continued, “What I overlooked was not thinking it would become an issue even if it aired,” adding, “There are many misunderstandings about not revealing the past sooner, but I already knew before we started dating.”
Shinji especially emphasized that the four had already met several times before the family meeting video, explaining, “It was originally a comfortable gathering where we exchanged jokes.”
Shinji mentioned that the families have not had a formal meeting yet, but stated, “The wedding date is set for early next year.”
Shinji debuted with Koyote in 1998 and gained love with hit songs like ‘Pure Love’, ‘Meeting’, and ‘Blue’. Munwon appeared on JTBC’s ‘Hidden Singer 1’ Yoon Min-soo edition and MBC’s ‘Trot National Competition’ in 2013.
The two are living together in their new home while preparing for marriage.
