Kwon Yul embarks again on a gourmet journey through the jointly produced ‘Walking Gourmet Trio’ by channel S and SK Broadband, airing its first episode on Thursday, August 7. He will target ‘taste gangsters’ from around the globe, showcasing his ‘taste connoisseur’ side alongside Yeon Woo-jin and CNBLUE’s Lee Jung-shin as they explore Italy’s hidden ‘ultimate eateries’.
Kwon Yul, who has earned the nickname ‘Yul Michelin’ for his deep culinary insights, captured viewers’ hearts with sincere taste exploration during the pilot broadcast. He promises fresh and cheerful laughter, completed with the ‘unpredictable bromance’ and unexpected ‘sweet chemistry’ with Yeon Woo-jin and Lee Jung-shin, who are as comfortable as friends. Below is a Q&A with Kwon Yul.
Q. Please share the reason and your thoughts on joining the regular season following the pilot.
A. Above all, I am grateful and deeply moved to greet you again in the regular season. ‘Walking Gourmet Trio’ is a program that introduces local eateries that are not well known yet, and I really liked its sincerity.
After the pilot broadcast, I read a comment saying, “My first overseas trip was really happy and satisfying thanks to the eatery introduced in the program.” Reading that, I felt grateful knowing that ‘the sincerity we wanted to convey had reached them to some extent’.
Thus, I naturally wanted to join the regular season and wish to convey that sincerity well to the viewers again.
Q. I heard you have a special connection with Yeon Woo-jin and Lee Jung-shin as you worked on the same project but didn’t have any scenes together. How did you feel meeting them in a variety show?
A. I really didn’t expect to meet them in a variety show, but it was enjoyable as each of them naturally and honestly showcased their charms.
Viewers will probably discover a lot of unexpected aspects unique to us individually and as a trio. Look forward to it.
Q. What was your role in ‘Walking Gourmet Trio’, and did you have any struggles as the oldest brother?
A. Rather than being the oldest brother, I tried to consider the overall balance as an experienced travel show actor. Since the two friends express their distinct colors and opinions candidly, I approached it more from a friend’s perspective in the journey. Hence, there were hardly any struggles.
Q. What was the travel chemistry & food chemistry among you three?
A. Checking through the broadcast will give the most accurate picture. Even during filming, we really enjoyed ourselves, and I hope that atmosphere was conveyed as is.
Q. Did you prepare anything special for the trip to Italy?
A. It’s hard to say I prepared something special, but I did research local food and places in advance. Given that it’s a ‘walking trip’, I thought we would have a lot of walking involved, so I tried to build up some stamina in advance.
Q. What do you think is the charm point of ‘Walking Gourmet Trio’ that distinguishes it from other gourmet & travel programs?
A. Despite not being fluent, the process of directly communicating with locals through gestures and moving from alley to alley is its biggest charm.
Also, rather than just saying ‘everything is delicious’, the atmosphere where each of us can give honest feedback based on preferences is what sets it apart from other programs.
