Actor Park Gyu-young has taken off the mask. On December 26 of last year, the Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 was released.
The story unfolds with the fierce battle between ‘Gi-hun’ (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the game with a vow of revenge, and ‘Frontman’ (Lee Byung-hun) who confronts him, and the real game that begins again. Among the revelations, the identity of Nole, played by Park Gyu-young, was revealed. Nole is a North Korean defector and former soldier working at an amusement park in a doll costume, seeking her daughter left in the North.
Upon receiving the ‘○△□’ card, she wore the pink uniform of the game’s progression staff, instead of the green tracksuit worn by participants. As ‘Nole’ became a Pink Guard, she turns guns back on participants barely kept alive by other Pink Guards.
In response, Park Gyu-young stated, “‘Nole’ cannot live with the guilt of leaving her child in the North, but can continue to live with a small hope of finding her child,” adding, “She participated in the game with the thought of sending people like herself without hope in life to a peaceful rest without pain.” With Nole’s appearance, viewers could see the game, previously seen through the perspective of participants, from the perspective of Pink Guards, or the game’s progress staff.
