The reason for Jiyeun’s suspension from ‘Running Man’ has been revealed. Previously, there were various speculations such as burnout and reduced stamina, but it was actually due to a thyroid condition.

On the SBS broadcast of ‘Running Man’ on the 2nd, Jiyeun returned after about 3 weeks and reunited with the members. As she appeared, with a somewhat husky voice, she said, “I feel emotional coming back after 3 weeks,” with tears in her eyes, receiving a warm welcome from the members. Kim Jongkook said, “We apologized to Yeun. Her double chin was not due to weight but because of her thyroid,” bringing laughter.

Jiyeun expressed, “Thank you for all the support. My voice hasn’t fully recovered yet but it’s getting better.” When Jiseokjin worriedly told her, “Don’t force yourself to talk,” Jiyeun reassured the members with her characteristic bright energy, saying, “It’s okay. They say talking a lot helps the vocal cords.”

Haha added to the laughter by repeatedly apologizing, “Sorry for teasing you about the double chin. Sorry for teasing about the uvula.” Yoo Jaesuk encouraged her by saying, “It’s the best that Yeun has returned to health,” and “Let’s recover slowly without pushing too hard.”

Jiyeun had temporarily halted activities in September due to health issues and had been focusing on treatment for hypothyroid symptoms. Her agency stated at the time, “Jiyeun is focusing on recovery and will take adequate rest,” and Yoo Jaesuk explained on the broadcast, “Yeun is not burnt out, she is just momentarily under treatment.”

Jiyeun shared on the broadcast, “After getting sick, even my taste changed, and due to hormone fluctuations, my emotions became sensitive,” adding, “There have been many emotional moments.” She also said, “I am really grateful for everyone’s support, and as I’ve regained health, I’ll work even harder. Now, I will prioritize my health.”

Meanwhile, hypothyroidism is a condition where a lack of thyroid hormone slows body metabolism, causing symptoms such as fatigue, swelling, weight gain, and depression. It is especially common in women and requires consistent medication and management. Experts advise, “With early diagnosis and consistent treatment, a normal life is possible.”
