Group NewJeans and ADOR are set to engage in a legal battle over their exclusive contract.
ADOR, regarding the lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, stated it was an “inevitable decision,” while NewJeans said, “When we came across articles from a media that stalked and slandered us and spread false information, we couldn’t help but feel fear and disgust,” claiming that trust had been broken. On the 6th, NewJeans, through an official statement, said, “ADOR could not properly argue that there was no breach of the exclusive contract, and merely repeated the claim that the contract cannot be canceled until the investment and support of the company is collected,” adding, “However, we have already returned profits exceeding the investment to ADOR and HYBE.”
Despite this, HYBE attempted various forms of interference, such as slandering and reverse-viral tactics to devalue us, and ADOR turned a blind eye after their management changed,” they said.
They continued, “The exclusive contract clearly states that we can terminate the contract if ADOR fails to fulfill its contractual obligations,” adding, “Forcing us to work for five more years despite this breakdown in trust and breach of contract is not only unreasonable but also inhumane.”
Furthermore, “We gave ADOR a 14-day grace period and demanded them to rectify the contract violations, but ADOR was unable to make any corrections.
Accordingly, in accordance with the exclusive contract, we notified ADOR of the contract termination, which became effective immediately,” they said.
Additionally, “After announcing the termination of the exclusive contract, we are diligently fulfilling the remaining schedules with ADOR as promised.
However, we witnessed managers and production staff who were helping with these schedules crying after being subjected to severe harassment, such as having their laptops seized and being investigated suddenly without notice by ADOR and HYBE,” they lamented, expressing difficulty accepting such actions against staff conducting the remaining schedules, and added that it’s distressing that those affected by this unscrupulous and inhumane company are not ending with them.

They continued, “It is deeply regrettable that ADOR, which was consistently making excuses, has instead filed a lawsuit,” adding, “However, we expect the legal proceedings to reveal all the reasons why we had no choice but to opt for the exclusive contract termination and ADOR’s breach of contract.”
Previously, NewJeans held an emergency press conference on the 28th of last month and announced the termination of the exclusive contract, declaring the next day, the 29th, that they were no longer part of ADOR.
Subsequently, ADOR announced on the 5th that they sought to legally confirm that the exclusive contract with NewJeans remained valid and filed a lawsuit on the 3rd of this month at the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the contract’s validity.
ADOR explained regarding the lawsuit, “While we did not wish for a resolution through legal judgment, we decided it was imperative to ensure that exclusive contracts between a company and artists cannot be lightly terminated based solely on one party’s claim, acknowledging the need to clarify this to the artist and multiple stakeholders,” adding, “Above all, we sought a clear judgment from the court to preserve the foundation of the K-pop industry, which has grown on the basis of a healthy trust relationship between artists and company, as well as the Korean pop culture industry.”
They continued to express their unchanged stance of wanting to work with NewJeans, stating, “Separate from seeking judicial review of the exclusive contract’s effectiveness, we think sufficient and genuine discussions with the artists are crucial.
Despite multiple earnest requests from ADOR staff, we have not yet had the opportunity to communicate with the artists, but we will continue to make unremitting efforts to resolve unnecessary misunderstandings built up between the artists and us.”
