Comedian Shingiru revealed that she received a request for a proxy prescription of the obesity treatment drug, Wegovy.
On the 14th, on the YouTube channel ‘Mudeunhageru’, Shingiru expressed her displeasure over rude messages she received on social media (SNS).
Shingiru revealed the content of a message: “This is not out of malice, but I think you will die within 6 months, Shingiru. I am sending this message out of genuine concern, though it keeps me up at night.”
Shingiru was furious, saying, “If this is not malice, then what is? Is this supposed to be good intention?” She added, “It’s clearly intended to offend. This person is not an acquaintance who would actually worry about me.”
She continued, “If they truly cared, they wouldn’t have sent a message like that. They would have sent Wegovy, at least.”
When the production team asked, “Don’t you have any thoughts about Wegovy?” Shingiru replied, “There are no such ‘crises’ (Wegovy) in my life.”
Shingiru disclosed, “Other celebrities near me receive requests for congratulatory messages or wreaths for weddings, but I get inquiries about proxy prescriptions for Wegovy.”
She confessed that she hears, “Can’t you get Wegovy prescribed cheaply?”
Shingiru explained, “It actually is cheaper when prescribed for obesity, but expensive for cosmetic purposes.”
She delivered a sharp remark, “Lately, such requests are frequent, but getting caught for violating the Medical Law could result in imprisonment.”
Wegovy, released in Korea last October, gained attention for its excellent weight loss effects. However, as it’s being abused more for cosmetic purposes than for treating diabetes or obesity, concerns about side effects are growing.
Wegovy is a prescription drug that requires a doctor’s consultation and prescription. Proxy prescriptions violate Medical and Pharmaceutical Laws, and those receiving the prescription as well as the prescriber and the pharmacist selling the drug can be penalized.
In the video, Shingiru said, “If my health were bad, I would lose weight, but losing weight for cosmetic reasons entails losing too much.”
She added, “When stressed, I endure it by thinking of having a drink and eating something delicious.”
