London Asian Film Festival closes… Best Picture awarded to Hong Kong film ‘Love Rising’

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Boram = The 9th London Asian Film Festival concluded its 12-day journey and closed on the 3rd (local time), the executive committee announced on the 6th.

Out of 10 films that entered the competition section, the Best Picture award went to ‘Love Rising,’ a Hong Kong film directed by Ho Miu Kee. It is praised for deeply moving audiences with its direction and the performance of lead actress Sandra Ng (Ng Junru), reflecting the complex essence and loss of human relationships in modern society.

The Jury Mention award went to ‘Dead Talent Society,’ a Taiwanese film by director John Su. This horror-comedy genre film was noted for addressing sharp and deep themes with humor.

Simon Yam (任達華) was selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also the lead in the closing film ‘Little Red Sweet’ and is one of Hong Kong’s notable actors, having appeared in over 150 films such as ‘Bullet in the Head,’ ‘Election,’ and ‘Ip Man.’

This year’s London Asian Film Festival introduced works from various Asian countries including Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

The opening film was ‘Runaway’ by director Lee Jong-pil, and Lim Ji-yeon from ‘Revolver’ clinched the Best Actress award at the opening ceremony.

Executive Committee Chairperson Jeon Hye-jung stated, “During the festival period, not only London citizens but also fans from various cities across the UK visit theaters. The audience becomes the driving force for hosting the festival,” and added, “The London Asian Film Festival, where East and West meet, is a place where we dream together.”
