“Kim Hye-soo poured everything into it.” Actor Kim Hye-soo begins this year’s Disney+ lineup with a splendid start through the new series ‘Trigger’.
Kim Hye-soo transformed into a passionate investigative reporter PD in the drama.
Actor Jung Sung-il and Joo Jong-hyuk praised Kim Hye-soo while working with director Yoo Seon-dong, with director Yoo especially noting, “I couldn’t imagine the character without Kim Hye-soo,” and likened her to a musician, stating, “She was one of the top-tier musicians among the actors I’ve met.”
The production presentation for ‘Trigger’ was held on the 8th in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
Director Yoo Seon-dong, along with Kim Hye-soo, Jung Sung-il, and Joo Jong-hyuk attended the event.
‘Trigger’ tells the story of die-hard investigative reporters who don’t hold back and use their cameras to expose the wrongdoings of bad guys in this beautiful world.
In the drama, Kim Hye-soo plays the role of Oh So-ryong, the PD and the head of the flowerhead team in the investigative program ‘Trigger’.
Oh So-ryong is someone who roams the reporting field without sparing any means to unveil the wrongdoings of bad guys.
Kim Hye-soo stated, “Upon reading the script that dealt with serious social issues, I found the overarching keyword delightful,” additionally noting “There was a distinct message, sincerity, wit, and sharpness penetrating reality that brought catharsis.”
She continued, “I have a conviction to make sure bad guys don’t commit bad actions.
Professionally, there’s expertise, but there are also human vulnerabilities,” she said.
Kim Hye-soo revealed she wanted to integrate professionalism into her character as a PD.
In fact, Kim Hye-soo previously challenged herself as an MC for a news program through MBC’s ‘W’ in 2010.
She added, “While the experience of being a current affairs program MC helped, Oh So-ryong acts as a PD on site, uncovering the facts of cases, so I consulted directly or indirectly with investigative reporters.
I mobilized all my connections,” she laughed and said, “I borrowed clothes they wore in real life.
It helped a lot visually.” Kim Hye-soo is slated to lead the drama with fast-paced action and more.
Kim Hye-soo said, “There were actual coordinated actions, but I didn’t go to action school,” she continued, “With everyday acting, there were moments of running or falling, which led to a thigh muscle tear.
All the actors experienced the same,” she said.
As a 50-something still passionate about her physically demanding roles, Kim Hye-soo laughed, saying, “It’s still enjoyable to act with my body like this.”
Jung Sung-il noted, “Kim Hye-soo had the best physical stamina on set as an actor.

- They draw the face anew with makeup, stretch and shrink the body with Photoshop, fill the body with silicone, and finally, heavily edit the entire image… where’s the ‘self’ in all of that? If it was natural, it’d be different… The comments saying those pictures are pretty seem like a mental disorder

It even made me laugh by saying, “I was the worst.”
Kim Hye-soo’s bickering chemistry with actor Jung Sung-il was also something to look forward to.
In his previous work, the drama ‘The Glory’, Jung Sung-il received great love for his role as Ha Do-young, and in ‘Trigger’, he plays Han Do, a parachute middle-aged rookie at the broadcasting station.
Kim Hye-soo stated, “It was so much fun acting with Jung Sung-il,” she continued, “The characters’ relationships tried to trust each other, but experienced betrayal, tried to connect, yet drifted apart.”
She added, “Jung Sung-il’s first impression was quite unexpected.
‘The Glory’ left such a strong impression,” she continued by saying “I thought ‘What is this?’ at first glance.
There was a boyish look from comics, and that look is present in the character.
You’ll see amazing sides of actor Jung Sung-il,” increasing anticipation.
Jung Sung-il said about Kim Hye-soo, just like director Yoo Seon-dong, “As a top-tier musician, I just had to listen nearby,” making a joke, and continued “I liked it from the start.
There couldn’t be any absence of tension.
Because she’s such an amazing actress, just acting together was overwhelming,” he said.
He also said, “Having approached with a warm personality and a character from the project, I followed well.
She was the best partner,” he said.
He further explained, “In ‘The Glory,’ I played a character who had everything, but in ‘Trigger’ I play the character with the least.
It’s a character where my usual self can be most revealed.”
Meanwhile, Joo Jong-hyuk played the role of Kang Ki-ho, a passionate max level PD in ‘Trigger’.
Despite being a character with a pathetic aura, Joo Jong-hyuk stated, “I want to show a manly image,” causing laughter.
‘Trigger’ is set to premiere on the 15th.
A total of 12 episodes will be released, with two episodes each week.
