Kian84, ‘Extreme84’ takes on the challenge of the South African Big 5 Marathon from the first broadcast, stating, “Completing the race is more important than the ranking.”

On the first broadcast of MBC’s new entertainment program ‘Gukhan84’ on the 30th of last month, Gian84 participated in his first trail marathon in life.

On the broadcast, Gian84 announced the recruitment of a crew, saying “If I have a personal wish, one person should be someone who runs much better than me, and the other should be someone I can guide. Of course, sincerity is a must,” he revealed.

The influence of Gian84, a representative runner in the entertainment industry, was tremendous, and it was revealed that studio MC Lee Eun-ji and crew member Kwon Hwa-woon also started running influenced by him, drawing attention.

Before his first trail marathon challenge, Gian84 trained his physical strength by running up and down mountains for 150km.

On the eagerly awaited departure day, Gian84 showed an excited heart but faced a predicament when confirmed another crew member Choo Sung-hoon’s toe fracture. Eventually, Choo Sung-hoon decided to stay in Korea, while Gian84 left with Kwon Hwa-woon behind him with regret.

Arriving in South Africa, Gian84 adapted to the local weather, moving to where the marathon was held. Gian84 and Kwon Hwa-woon formed a unique chemistry, and Gian84 showed a tired expression due to Kwon Hwa-woon’s “talkative energy,” bringing laughter.

Arriving at their accommodation late at night, Gian84 took out his running journal, expressing his determination, “I am more worried about not being able to finish than excited. Still, I won’t give up. I will finish even if I walk. I will run like crazy,” he declared.

As the day of reckoning dawned, Gian84 said, “I knew it would be hard running with the goal to finish, so I deliberately didn’t think about anything. I avoided the terrible future. The goal is to finish, not the ranking since it’s the first trail marathon,” he left the accommodation.

Meeting participants and easing his tension while moving to the starting point, Gian84 was thrilled with the thought that he might run alongside the ‘Big 5’ – lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinoceroses.

Clipping on the runner’s dream bib number ’45’ and diligently packing a recyclable silicone cup, Gian84 steeled himself among people from all over the world.

Communicating with runners from all around the world and waiting for the start signal, Gian84 began his first trail marathon in life with the sound of the start gun.
