“Jung Jiyin Director of ‘Jeongnyeoni’: ‘Kim Tae-ri and Moon So-ri’s ‘Chuwolmanjeong’ Scene, Prepared the Longest” [Interview②]

tvN drama ‘Jungnyeoni’ director Jung Ji-in revealed that he put the most effort into the ‘Chu-wol-manjeong’ scene outside the national drama stage.

Director Jung Ji-in told Ilgan Sports through the production team on the 27th, “The scene we put the most effort into, other than the national drama, was the ending of episode 10, where Yongrye (Moon So-ri) sings ‘Chu-wol-manjeong’ which Jungnyeoni (Kim Tae-ri) hears for the first time,” adding, “We barely found a suitable location for the script close to the shooting time and calculated the sunrise and tide times months in advance, capturing the scene in two takes.”

He continued, “It was the first time I have prepared for and shot a scene for this long while directing,” and stated, “Thanks to the two actors who beautifully performed the emotional line over several days of shooting, we could complete the scene perfectly.”

He also mentioned, “All the staff and actors put their maximum effort into the national drama scenes.”

He explained, “For the national drama shooting, we conducted camera rehearsals and dress rehearsals each a day before the main filming.

The national drama stage typically took about a week to ten days per performance on average.”

He continued, “Showing the female national drama stage for a long time was a challenge that stemmed from the thought that if we couldn’t justify this length, we couldn’t justify any of the performances shown by the drama moving forward,” reflecting on, “It might have been reckless, but during the post-production process, as I confirmed the synergy between music director Jang Young-gyu’s stage music and the mixing team’s sound work, my nervous anticipation for the performance scenes gradually shifted to a desire to show them as soon as possible.”

‘Jungnyeoni’, set in the post-Korean War 1950s, depicts the competition, solidarity, and brilliant coming-of-age story surrounding Jungnyeoni, a natural sound genius challenging the top national drama actor, and ended on the 17th.

It started at 4.8% (Nielsen Korea nationwide paid household standard) in October and ended with high popularity at 16.5%.

It also recorded first place in the TV-OTT topicality survey’s drama section (according to Good Data Corporation) and first place in November drama brand reputation rankings (according to Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute).
