Singer Jadu (Kim Deok-eun, 43), who was a member of the group ‘The Jadu’, confessed that she suffered from severe depression due to past fraud victimization. The Jadu was a mixed duo that gained sensational popularity in the early 2000s with their hit song ‘Kimbap’, and the members were Jadu and Kangdoo (Song Yong-sik, 46).

On the 17th, a video titled ‘Jang Young-ran’s unique recipe when making kimbap’ was uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘A-Class Jang Young-ran’. Jadu, who sang ‘Kimbap’ in line with the theme, appeared as a guest that day.

In a conversation with Jang Young-ran, Jadu shared anecdotes from her time in ‘The Jadu’.

Jadu said, “There was a time when I appeared on TV whenever you turned it on,” and confessed that she thought of herself as a famous entertainer. During their debut, The Jadu succeeded in a series of hit songs starting with their debut song ‘Goodbye’ (2001), followed by ‘We Need a Conversation’ (2002) and ‘Kimbap’ (2003), earning them the nickname ‘hit song maker’.

During the conversation, Jang Young-ran asked, “The Jadu actively performed for about five years, then suddenly disappeared from broadcasts” and inquired about the reason.

In response, Jadu said, “Kangdoo and I went to different companies. That was around the time I started getting scammed,” and began to open up about her hardships.

She said, “I was scammed in various ways. I really didn’t know much about the world,” and added, “I couldn’t ignore the stories of those around me who spent time with me, talking about their difficulties with household or hospital expenses.”

Continuing, she said, “I started feeling skeptical about people. I didn’t realize it at the time, but later I found out I was suffering from severe depression, which was shocking to learn.”

Jadu said, “I was on oxygen tanks daily and received IVs at the hospital whenever I collapsed. Around that time, I started my faith life” and revealed, “I was looking for a company where I could comfortably live my faith life, but I got contract scammed as well.”

Nonetheless, she confessed, “I didn’t give up on life and overcame it to the end because there were people who embraced me till the end.”

After ending her activities with The Jadu in 2008, Jadu occasionally appeared in various media. In 2013, she married Jimmy Lee, a Korean American pastor.
