Composer and producer Kim Hyung-seok has been selected as a global artist at the University of Oxford in the UK.
According to the research team led by Professor Ji-Eun George at Oxford University (UK name Jieun Care), on the 27th, Kim Hyung-seok was named one of the six world artists selected by the newly established ‘Humanities and Kellogg College Visiting Program’ at Oxford University this year. This program invites world-renowned artists to join prominent scholars on campus in creation and research.
Kim Hyung-seok was selected as an ‘innovative artist’ who led the global success of K-pop.
The selected artists will share knowledge and interact with world-class scholars in various colleges at Oxford University during their visit.
Kim Hyung-seok will give special lectures and performances related to artificial intelligence (AI) and K-pop.
On December 4th, he plans to give a lecture at Oxford University’s Wolfson College and perform K-pop songs he composed in front of the faculty. In addition, he will work with Professor Ji-Eun’s research team on creation and research related to the globalization of the Korean language, and jointly research the convergence of AI and the Korean Wave.
Furthermore, Oxford University plans to co-host K-pop and Korean Wave events with the opening of the ‘Schwarzman Humanities and Arts Center’ next year and support them with academic research. Kim Hyung-seok said, “It is not an individual recognition, but a recognition of K-POP as a whole,” and expressed his determination to “achieve results by researching ‘sustainable Korean Wave’ at the world’s top research institution.” Reporter Park Se-yeon psyon@edaily.co.kr
