“‘Behind Your Touch’ Director Jung Ji-in: ‘Global Popularity? I Didn’t Expect It… Seems the Emotion Transcends Language'” [Interview Part 3]

tvN drama ‘Jeongnyeoni’ director Jeong Ji-in shared her thoughts on the popularity overseas.

Director Jeong Ji-in said to Ilgan Sports on the 27th through the production team, “To be honest, it was quite amazing.

I wasn’t sure if this kind of content would resonate with overseas viewers.

I didn’t have high expectations,” she began.

She continued, “But I think perhaps the universal emotions conveyed through the power of sound and the expression by our actors have reached the hearts of foreign viewers beyond language barriers.

Or perhaps period dramas are gaining a sort of support from the popularity of traditional historical dramas,” she said.

However, “I still don’t really know.

I’m just grateful,” she conveyed. Director Jeong Ji-in expressed her gratitude to the viewers for their enthusiastic response to ‘Jeongnyeoni’ saying, “Thank you so much.”

She stated, “It’s very rewarding that the result of the long effort with the actors and staff has received such great love,” and added, “I am truly thankful to the viewers who loved and supported ‘Jeongnyeoni’.”

‘Jeongnyeoni’ was set in the post-Korean War 1950s, depicting the competition, solidarity, and brilliant growth surrounding a naturally gifted sound genius, Jeongnyeoni, who aspires to become the best gugak performer, and concluded on the 17th.

It premiered in October with 4.8% viewership (based on Nielsen Korea’s national paid household standard) and gained great popularity, ending with 16.5%.

It also ranked first in the drama section of the TV-OTT topicality survey (based on Good Data Corporation), and topped the drama brand reputation rankings in November (based on Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute).
