In the 23rd episode of the KBS 1TV daily drama ‘Mari and Unusual Dads’ (Directed by Seo Yong-soo / Written by Kim Hong-joo / Produced by LI Entertainment, Monster Union) aired yesterday (12th), Kang Mari (played by Ha Seung-ri) faced an interview with the Eom Hospital Sperm Center research team, unaware that her father Kang Min-bo (played by Hwang Dong-joo) might become a test subject.
Joo Shi-ra (played by Park Eun-hye) and Yoon Eun-kyung (played by Jo Hyang-gi) quarreled over the repair costs of the back room of Mari’s house. This was because Eom Ki-boon (played by Jung Ae-ri), Shi-ra’s grandaunt and Eun-kyung’s mother, promised to pay the large repair bill. Believing Shi-ra held leverage over Ki-boon, Eun-kyung was certain of it.

Worried about the ailing Mari, Lee Kang-se (played by Hyun Woo) visited her house only to witness the quarrel between Shi-ra and Eun-kyung. Upon seeing Mari dashing out after noticing his call, he warmly embraced her.
But soon after, Min-bo appeared, prompting Mari and Kang-se to leave quickly. Mari disclosed to Kang-se that Min-bo is her father, promising to introduce him formally later.
Later, when Mari went for the Sperm Center research team interview, she met Professor Lee Poong-joo (played by Ryu Jin). She shared a story about a friend’s father suffering from azoospermia, expressing her curiosity about whether someone with it could never become a father, and her desire to learn more. With Min-bo at risk of becoming a test subject, curiosity about Mari’s fate continued to rise.
Meanwhile, Ki-boon strategized to sway Min-bo’s heart through Shi-ra. Ki-boon requested Shi-ra to persuade Min-bo, saying, “Mr. Kang is a very rare case and crucial to our research.”
However, Shi-ra refused, stating, “Secrets start spreading from the needle hole” and retorted with, “Who is Mari’s real father?” Met with this, Ki-boon evasively replied, “Don’t try to find out. I don’t know either,” bringing the conflict between Shi-ra and Ki-boon regarding Mari’s birth to the surface.
Listening to Ki-boon’s desperate appeal, Shi-ra couldn’t hold back her tears. The tears were a complex mix of regret over her past IVF decision, a fear that Mari might learn the truth, and an apologetic heart towards her clueless daughter.
At that moment, Poong-joo entered the elevator Shi-ra was on, observing her as she cried, marking the end of the scene and heightening anticipation for the dramatic developments to follow.
