The world’s first deaf idol group Big Ocean is heading to Geneva, Switzerland, upon official invitation from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). On the 5th, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), an agency under the UN, announced through its official website that Big Ocean would attend and perform at the ‘AI for Good Global Summit’ in Geneva, Switzerland, on July 8-9 next year (local time). The agency stated, “Big Ocean uses SVC (Singing Voice Conversion), a type of AI voice technology, in their music production process.”
While AI voices are being misused for social issues like voice phishing or deepfakes, Big Ocean has been evaluated as a positive example of using AI voices.
It was seen as a case of overcoming difficulties due to hearing limitations through artificial intelligence,” they explained the reason for Big Ocean’s invitation.
The ‘AI for Good Global Summit’ is a representative AI event of the UN, with participation from over 40 sister agencies, and since its launch in 2017, it has established itself as a global hub seeking practical solutions to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through AI technology.
It plays a role in connecting AI innovators with public and private sector CEOs to help AI solutions spread worldwide. Meanwhile, Big Ocean will release their first mini-album ‘Flow’ at noon on the 12th.
The title track ‘Flow’ introduces a new genre called ‘Free-Soul Pop,’ proposing the value of ‘becoming happy through music’ as music ‘for myself.’ Reporter Se-yeon Park psyon@edaily.co.kr
