Experts in Culture, Arts, Content, and Sports Discuss the Direction of South Korea’s Cultural Policy. On March 7th at 4 PM, the 1st (Provisional) Cultural Powerhouse Network National Assembly Forum will be held in Room 8 of the Assembly Members’ Hall.
This forum, under the theme ‘Dialogue for a Cultural Powerhouse – Crisis in Cultural Industry and Policy’, is expected to be a platform to explore the direction of South Korea’s cultural policy and to establish a sustainable cultural ecosystem. The forum is co-hosted by National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman Jeon Jae-soo, along with lawmakers Im Oh-kyung, Kim Yoon-duk, Min Hyung-bae, Park Soo-hyun, Lee Ki-heon, Kang Yoo-jung, Yang Moon-suk, Cho Gye-won, Kim Jae-won, and organized by (Provisional) Cultural Powerhouse Network.
Experts from various fields such as culture, arts, content, and sports will participate to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by South Korean cultural policy. The forum will be moderated by Professor Kim Jae-bum from the Department of Cultural Art Management at Kyung Hee University, while Professor Jung Jong-eun from the Department of Arts and Culture Film Studies at Pusan National University will give a keynote presentation on ‘Historical Issues of Korean Cultural Policy and Future Challenges’.
Subsequently, experts from various fields such as film, drama, K-POP, webtoon, literature, sports, and regional culture will continue the discussion. Ko Young-jae, CEO of Indie Plug, will share insights as an expert in independent film production and distribution, discussing ways to create and popularize an independent film ecosystem.
Composer Yoon Il-sang, known for numerous hit songs since the 1990s, including “I Want to See” (Kim Bum-soo) and “Fate” (Lee Seung-cheol), will discuss ways to enhance K-POP’s global competitiveness. Webtoon writer Seo I-re, known for “Tenure,” “Girl Walks,” and “Lana,” will address the instability factors in the webtoon industry by 2025 and the need for improved working conditions for creators.

Further, Park Moon-sung, a soccer commentator who has covered major international events including the 2002 World Cup, will discuss the sports ecosystem as a public good.
Also, Kang Seung-jin, former director of Chuncheon Cultural City Center, who has promoted regional cultural revitalization and citizen participation in cultural projects, will propose methods for qualitative changes in cultural administration and innovations in regional cultural policy.
These experts will propose directions for South Korea’s cultural policy, engage in in-depth discussions to find ways for sustainable growth in the cultural industry and support for creators.
