2025 Gyeonggi Arts Support: Selected Works for All Arts 31 Hwaseong

Hwaseong Special City and Hwaseong City Culture & Tourism Foundation are promoting the ‘2025 Gyeonggi Arts Support All Art31 Hwaseong’ project, selected the Korean traditional music crossover group Tale(TALE)’. Their performance <Musical Fairy Tale – Time Stopped at Our Home>will be held on September 21(Saturdayat 5 PMat Dongtan Complex Cultural Center Banseok Art Hall.

 

‘2025 Gyeonggi Arts Support All Art31 Hwaseongis a project to provide vast opportunities for professional cultural art appreciation to citizens of Hwaseong Special City by sponsoring selected works of outstanding artists and artist groups in Gyeonggi-do.

 

This performance is a new work by Tale(TALE)’, based in Hwaseong Citypresented in the form of a musical fairy tale for adultsThe work anthropomorphizes a housebuilt with a couple’s marriagecapturing how the space observes the changes in a family and the eraIt symbolizes broader societal issues beyond a mere living space, like population declinerural extinctionand the problem of abandoned houses.

 

On stage, folk singer Lee Min-jinbaritone Kim Young-hoonsheng player Hong Ji-hyepianist Lee Hyun-jindrummer Kim Young-jinbassist Lee Dong-minand a string quartet join together, with the story unfolding through a vocalist’s narrationAdditionally, Ahram Lee, former music director of the National Theater Yeowoorak Festival, directs to create an original stage combining traditional music(folk songsshamanistic ritual musicjapga, etc.)and Western music(requiemjazz, etc.). Artist Park Yae-ji contributes to the performance by presenting a fairy tale book containing the story.

 

The performance transcends simple artistic appreciation by conveying a social message that abandoned houses are no longer someone else’s story. It evokes childhood family memories while urging love and interest in the abandoned spaces around us.
