MBC announced that it would hold accountable those responsible, stating that it would pursue legal action equivalent to “riot” in relation to the incident where affiliated reporters were collectively assaulted by supporters protesting the review and issuance of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol. In a statement today, MBC said, “This court invasion and assault on the press team is a stark example showing that the insurrection behavior of the insurrection leader and their followers is still ongoing,” and urged, “We strongly call on government authorities to take powerful measures to prevent the insurrection from expanding into a civil war aspect.” It continued, “We express serious concern over the remarks and actions of some extreme right-wing forces inciting that MBC is the next target to attack beyond the court intrusion, and we are currently preparing and responding strictly,” adding, “Just as we have stood firmly against the ruthless power that continuously attempted to take over the public broadcast, MBC will never yield to the insurrection forces.” Specifically, it emphasized, “MBC has been doing its best on the ground to convey the truth to the people regarding the situation of martial law declaration, impeachment passage, and subsequent investigation of insurrection leaders and key personnel,” and “We will make sure there is no negligence in our efforts toward national unity, fulfilling our original role as a public broadcaster, so that the chaos caused by anti-state forces does not distort the truth and public opinion, and ultimately the failure of the regime does not lead to the frustration of South Korea.” Reporter Kang Joo-hee kjh818@edaily.co.kr
