100 [Exclusive] Park Hye-kyung, on President Yoon’s Removal: “So Overwhelmed with Emotions, Tears…Bravo!” [Direct Interview]

As 8 constitutional judges unanimously adopted the impeachment proposal against President Yoon Suk-yeol, singer Park Hye-kyung expressed her emotional feelings. On the 4th, right after President Yoon was dismissed, Park Hye-kyung spoke with Ilgan Sports and said, “I was so moved that I cried.”

Isn’t this country protected by our mothers, grandmothers, and all the people?

Where else in the world do people bring out their gold during difficult times?” she continued, “I thought it would be 8 to 0 (for President Yoon’s dismissal), but still, I’m so happy,” she said. Then she added, “Haven’t such unimaginable things been happening all along?

Every time I watched the news, I was really taken aback.

He committed outrages beyond all systems,” she recalled, “I wondered how much better our country could become for such things to happen.” Park Hye-kyung said, “Korea is a country where you can sing and express freely.

This is the democracy of South Korea,” adding, “With BTS, Director Bong Joon-ho, and Jennie here, Korea was the number one country everyone wanted to travel to worldwide.

But President Yoon suddenly made such a country the most dangerous and abnormal,” she lamented.

Park Hye-kyung also said, “Honestly, it was a bit scary.

I didn’t have the courage to write (in support of impeachment) on social media or even sing when asked,” she said, “I was always worried that if I stood up (for political issues), I might not be able to do broadcasts or performances.

My mother also worried a lot,” she admitted.

Then she continued, “It’s extremely fortunate that (the impeachment was upheld).

Congratulations to me and to the people.

Long live South Korea,” and she exclaimed, “How hard we’ve fought for our democracy, how hard we’ve kept this country.

We really protected it with blood and sweat.

I was really considering whether I should give it all up and move abroad, but now there’s no need for that.

Bravo,” she shouted. Meanwhile, Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae read the impeachment verdict stating, “President Yoon Suk-yeol is dismissed” at 11:22 a.m. today.

The dismissal took effect immediately, and from that moment, President Yoon lost his position.

It was after 122 days since President Yoon declared martial law on December 3, and 111 days after the impeachment proposal was submitted on December 14 last year. Reporter Jang Ju-yeon jang3@edaily.co.kr
